Video in Internet Marketing
Jul 25th
On Wednesday last week I was in Manchester talking about the importance of video in marketing for the Social Media Academy, but this was before the below piece of genius from South Wales became an overnight YouTube sensation. This viral further highlights the importance of video in the marketing mix in 2010.
Video is great for a number of reasons:
- It adds personality to your brand
- It’s great for search: accurately tagged video content is 52 per cent more likely to appear on the front page of Google
- It helps you showcase your products and services to a global audience and enables other people to share that content, effectively doing your marketing for you.
- If done right – as the Newport viral demonstrates – it can lead to more local and national media coverage
It’s also as expensive as you choose to make it. For more, read our guide on how to use Internet video for business.
Disillusioned with Twitter?
Jul 8th
I’m sure a load of people will throw some stats at me to the contrary, but I’m wondering if Twitter is losing its early adopters. And, if it loses them, how long has it got before they find the next big thing and extol that instead?
I blogged recently on how I endure a love-hate relationship with Twitter and I reckon I have to fight through 90 per cent of the rubbish to get 10 per cent value. I was speaking to a formerly-active Tweeter and prominent social media consultant last night and he admitted to hardly going on anymore. What shall we call it? Fatweegue?
When prominent journalists are getting sacked for their tweets (yes, yes, yes, exercise common sense), you’ve got to wonder how many ‘influencers’, such as journalists, will think tweeting is really worth it. Added to this, Twitter’s EarlyBird programme is going to mean the start of sponsored messaging on Twitter.
Of course, I still believe Twitter has value but could we have seen it peak? I’d welcome the thoughts of long-term users – how the way you use it has changed since you started out, how you derive value etc? Where do you think Twitter goes from here?
